How to get hired as a designer in 2026?

According to a senior designer I listened to yesterday, to get hired these days you’ve got to have shipped a product using AI. His reasoning was that Figma’s AI is supposedly so good now, it’s no longer proof of ability to show designs. To be sure new hires are competent, now companies want designers who’ve shipped products. I wonder: If you’ve shipped a product, it’s either successful, and you no longer want or need a job, or it isn’t, and you need a job. Does this mean companies now filter for unsuccessful entrepreneurs?
